To make the right choice you must be clear about your future goals or have the necessary assistance. Otherwise, it becomes an overwhelming exercise. Also, a wrong choice at this stage will have irrevocable aftermath from which you can hardly ever escape.

With a plethora of choices and opportunities available, it might appear intimidating but, on closer inspection, you will find that the options have pros and cons which are either in tune to your ambitions or are not. These options empower you to decide on the career option that is best for you.

Still vexed? Scroll down to read and choose the right course of your life. It’s not that difficult to opt for the stream if you have a clear understanding of your interests, the subjects that fascinate you.

However here are few questions that need to be answered before taking the plunge –

  • What are the career opportunities in the subjects you are deciding on?

  • What are the curricula followed by the different boards?

  • Should you consider professional courses or stick to more traditional options?

The answers to these questions will determine the future course of a student’s career both in academics and professional sphere.

It will help you learn Decision Making

This phase will also give you the first taste of adulthood and introduce you to a very important life skill i.e. Decision Making. In fact, decision making is a sought-after skill for every career option and will matter the most once you enter the job market, irrespective of the industry or domain. Therefore, the sooner you learn the art and science of decision making based on logical reasoning, the better it will be for you. And career decision post class 10 is the right place to start this life learning.

Stream selection

The most important decision after class 10 is opting for the right stream of study. Selecting the right stream is really important as your future depends on it. Stay away from the herd mentality of going for the course your friends are enrolling for or the one your parents are suggesting. This erroneous and perilous practice often leads to faulty career choices as in doing so you opt for the stream without actually understanding what lies in store after joining it.

Different streams that are available after Class 10

Science

The subjects studied in this course are Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer along with English and a vernacular language, depending on the board and medium you opt for.

If you choose Medicine over Engineering then the subject offered other than the above mentioned is Biology. It has career choices in two courses which are Engineering and Medical Sciences.

In Engineering, you need to understand concepts while in Medicine, you need to memorize them. Engineering requires analytical thinking and grasping power while Medicine requires memorization and learning skills. For taking up Engineering you should take up PCM (or MPC) and for Medicine, you should take up PCB (or BiPC) combination.

careers after 10th

Science is the most sought after the course and one that almost every parent wants their child to take up as this stream has a number of rewarding career opportunities including engineering, medical, and research in different domains.

Another major advantage is that it allows students to change streams and take up Arts or Commerce later in their lives if they are not at ease with programs or specializations available at the graduation level.

Quite the reverse is the case of Arts or Commerce students who cannot elect to choose science subjects at the undergrad level. Those aspiring to be engineers should opt for PCM or Physics + Chemistry + Mathematics as core subjects, or one can go for PCMB i.e. Physics + Chemistry + Mathematics + Biology, especially if medical is the career goal.
