Course Details

Biotechnology is a broad scientific discipline where biological sciences combined with engineering. Biotechnology exploits cellular and biological processes to develop new technologies, as well as products functional in different fields like research, agriculture, industry, health care, environment, etc.

Advanced degrees are also offered by universities including Master of Science or a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, preparing the future specialist well. The study programs normally take two to five years to complete.

A degree in Bioinformatics creates specialists in the field of computer and data analysis, who work in the domain of biotechnology and various other biological research spaces. The professionals are engaged in collecting, storing, analyzing, and presenting complex biological data including DNA and genome information, protein sequencing and pathways. Pharmaceuticals, computer information science, and medical technology are the other field of interest for the young aspirants.

The 5-year integrated programme in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics covers a wide variety of subjects from biology, and physical sciences to engineering disciplines. The carefully designed curriculum, sophisticated laboratory facilities, disciplined research-based teaching, opportunity to work on independent in-house projects and the chance of getting trained in leading biotechnological firms to make our students proficient to venture into career opportunities either in industry or in academia.

This integrated course is a complete programme to systematically groom a young student just after their school into an academic enthusiast or an industry professional in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics within a span of five years.

There are about 40 colleges in India that offer B Tech in Bioinformatics and hundreds that offer B Sc in the subject. There are more than 150 colleges and universities that offer M. Sc in Bioinformatics. The Neotia University and Yogi Vemana University offer integrated M. Sc in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics. Dr. MGR Educational and Research Centre, Dr. Zakir Husain Institute and International Institute of Information Technology offer M.S. in Bioinformatics.
