Why study cyber security?

Cyber threat is paralysing the whole world and, at the same time, constantly creating new career opportunities. After completion of the Computer Science & Engineering with specialization in Cyber Security course, students will be able to work as information security officer, forensic computer analyst, information security analyst, security architect, security engineering, security systems administrators and IT security consultants. Computer Science & Engineering Course students can choose either Cyber Security or Data Analytics as their subject specialisation under the program.

Under the directive of the University Grants Commission all university vice chancellors have introduced curricula on cyber security in colleges across India to meet the increasing demand for professionals in this space. NASSCOM together with DSCI presently operates a number of cyber labs in cities like Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, Thane, Mumbai, Gurgaon, Delhi and Hyderabad. The country’s first Cyber Forensic Laboratory (CFL) was founded in Tripura in the year 2013.

Courses in Cyber Security

Students can opt for both B. Tech and B.E degrees. Many government and private universities and colleges also offer post graduate degree programs in Cyber Security in technology and management.

B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering with specialization in IT Security & Cyber Forensics in association with IBM can be studied at UPES, Dehradun, while B.Tech. Information Technology with specialization in Cyber Security can be pursued from HITS, Chennai.

Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar, IIIT, Allahabad, NIT Karnataka, Surathkal, NIT, Jamshedpur, MNNIT, Allahabad, MANIT, Bhopal, NIT, Rourkela, Amrtia University and Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi.

Institutes like IIIT, Allahabad and ABV-Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Gwalior offer PhD studies in cyber security.

Eligibility

To appear for Examination Pathway admissions through UPESEAT (Upto 80% of Seats) one has to score minimum 60% marks at Higher & Senior Secondary level (10th & 12th) with minimum 60% in Pure Science subjcts at Senior Secondary level (12th). For Non Examination Pathway – admissions are done through board performance /JEE Mains Score (Up to 20% of Seats). For board minimum 80% marks are required at Higher & Senior Secondary level (10th & 12th) and minimum 80% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics at Senior Secondary level (12th class).

For JEE Mains, minimum 60% marks at Higher & Senior Secondary level (10th & 12th) and minimum 60% in pure science subjects at Senior Secondary level (12th class) is mandatory.

Cyber security graduates today have a plethora of opportunities in the job market. They can work for a number of organizations both government and private, including the administration, departments under various ministries, IT and security industry, audit firms, research organizations and universities, both in India and abroad.

Positions may include Cyber Forensics Solutions architect/planning and expansion specialist/malware analyst/examiner/engineer, Cyber Security architect/administrator, Intelligence analyst, Information Security Analyst, Expert at Antivirus firms, Computer and Information system manager or Network security analyst.
