The gaming industry began solely as a source of entertainment for kids and teenagers. Right now the industry has grown to be more profitable than the film and music industries combined. It is the economic sector, involved in the development, marketing, and monetization of video games.
It encompasses dozens of job disciplines and employs hundreds and thousands of people all over the world. Many kids who grew up playing and loving games are now pursuing a high-paying career within the industry proving people, who thought it was just a waste of time, Wrong!
In today’s world, the gaming industry in India is expected to become one of the world’s leading markets. It has seen massive growth in the last five years and is expected to reach a whopping 4 billion dollar industry by 2025.
The gaming industry invites men and women of all ages but attracts children and teenagers who are in school or are going to get into college, the most. During this time, thinking about career growth in the same industry as it is interesting, it is attractive for them, so working in the same field will help them work better and become successful faster.
But before doing so, there may come a lot of questions, doubts, and obstacles so let’s clear some of those doubts through this blog.

It serves a lot of purposes such as increasing followers, having a gaming portfolio and video recorded proof of it, generating revenue through donations, and also increasing subscribers of your channel.
Once you reach that level, you can start participating in Tournaments (Esports) where you can win big with the Prize Pool. But tournaments don’t happen every day so that’s just a One-Shot-One-Bullet type of income.
Professional Tech Brands such as Intel, Razor, HP, and Asus also hand a monthly payout to these kinds of streamers just to showcase their logo in their streams.
Other than this, there are a lot of ways to have a side income alongside your main gaming career. For example, after a long streaming session, gamers make a montage of their gameplays and release them on online video platforms such as Youtube and monetize them.
If you have the talent, passion, and drive to dedicate your life to video games, you should as well build a career in it or around it.

The video game industry is growing so fast every year that it makes plenty of employment available but there are some things to be kept in mind before making your final decision to work in this industry. It’s not always fun and games (well, technically it is, but you know what I mean).
This is the most controversial and scary topic when it comes to games because this mostly scares people away from joining the industry. It sounds simple; You work Overtime, and you get paid extra for your hard work. Well, that is not exactly the case here. In the video game world, we call it the “Crunch”.
Take Cyberpunk, for example, the video game release deadline was fixed but the developers hadn’t yet finished developing the game, thus they had the crunch in the extra hours, working night shifts, and everything they could do to just release the game. Guess what happened?
The game was bombarded with thousands of bugs and glitches that made the experience horrible. And this is quite common in this industry. You will be expected to do all the extra hard work for the same pay.
Indie companies mean independent companies that produce independent games made by independent developers made in indie studios (Raji: An Ancient Epic is an Indie Game) have less than 20 people working while the Big shots or the Triple As (AAA) have over a thousand employees working for the company worldwide such as EA, Rockstar, Ubisoft and so on. They both have different payout structures, different job focus, and work pressure with different benefits and problems.
When starting, it’s better to join an Indie Studio because you’ll have an impact on how the game plays and how good it is at the end of the day while making something like a 3D mansion as an out-of-map background in a game like Call of Duty (no one cares) barely matters.
It is not rocket science, getting successful in this industry is just a big old Grind (any Genshin Impact players here?). By successful I mean, earning up to 1 lakh rupees a year. It is gonna be a long climb to get there as much as any other industry. But I feel that you would have to put in extra time, effort, and work into this industry to make as much as you would, in another industry.
If you have to keep moving up, you have to update your portfolio to show companies your work (that you own) and not the work you did in your last job (which could get you sued). In the end, you have to do more than just be good at your job, to reach new heights and upgrade your career and salary.
Last but not least question would be about how to get that first job? How to break into the industry? It is like starting most things, in the beginning, is the hardest part. Once you have one job on your resume, it’s a lot easier to land other jobs in the future with increasing returns. But, if you haven’t worked anywhere before, the company has to take a risk with you.
