What was the idea behind launching Digital Vidya?
We started our 1st venture, Whizlabs Software, in the year 2000. With no experience in sales and marketing, we struggled to get our 1st customer. While all traditional marketing efforts failed, we accidentally used SEO (Search Engine Optimization) to acquire our 1st customer in the year 2001.
Once we discovered the opportunity of SEO, we actively started learning and leveraging digital marketing. Until 2009, we were informally sharing the opportunity of digital marketing with other professionals and fellow entrepreneurs. A friend suggested that if we could formally share our experience and expertise about digital marketing, many people would be immensely benefitted through it.
Listening to our friend’s advice, we launched Digital Vidya in 2009 and since then we are up to the mission of the helping professionals, students and entrepreneurs grow by learning & leveraging digital marketing.
What is the present scope of digital marketers in India?

How can a course in digital marketing help one upgrade his/her skills?
As I shared earlier, given the dynamic nature of the digital marketing industry, academic institutions are not in a position to produce relevant digital marketing talent.
For anyone who wants to acquire digital marketing skills, s/he has two choices: self-learn or join an industry-recognized digital marketing course such as CDMM (Certified Digital Marketing Master).
For self-learning to be successful, the motivation level and discipline has to be extremely high.
In a structured course such as CDMM, participants master various aspects of digital marketing through a rigorous curriculum, which includes a series of practical assignments. The program is taught by multiple digital marketing experts and includes modules, which are jointly created with industry leaders such as Facebook & LinkedIn.
What are the major digital marketing trends in 2018?
Digital marketing trends in 2018 include the growth of existing digital marketing avenues such as Marketing Automation, Content Marketing & Mobile Marketing.
2018 trends also include the emergence of newer opportunities such as Artificial Intelligence (e.g. Chatbots), Voice Search.
What are entrepreneurial opportunities in digital marketing?
Digital marketing offers multiple entrepreneurial opportunities:
• Freelancing: Given digital marketing can be executed from anywhere, freelancing in digital marketing is a popular trend. For e.g., one can serve international organization while living in a remote corner of India.
• Digital Marketing Agency: Organizations across the world are looking at partnering with digital marketing agencies that can provide specialized digital marketing services. India alone has 500+ digital marketing agencies ranging from a couple of people team to 1000+ people companies.
• Affiliate Marketing: On mastering digital marketing, one can create his/her blog or a website through which s/he can promote others’ products and services. Alternatively, one can earn money by advertising on his/her blog.
How can digital marketing help grow businesses?
As shared earlier, a large majority of organizations have significant % of their potential customers present on digital media. Digital marketing allows an organization to reach out and engage with these prospects resulting in multiple opportunities:

• Online Sales
Digital media such as Social Media or Emails can also help organizations fulfill other objectives such as Customer Relationship Management, Employer Branding, Recruitment, and Market Research.
Is digital marketing relevant to Tier 2 and 3 city businesses?
Absolutely Yes! The primary reason for this is the number of people on digital media in Tier 2 and 3 cities. For e.g., a Tier 2 city Pune has 6.2 million users on Facebook alone. Coimbatore, a Tier 3 city also has 1.6 million of users on Facebook.
Moreover, the number of users and the time spent on digital media are growing significantly in both Tier 2 & 3 cities.
For these reasons, not just in present, but also in future, digital marketing will continue to be relevant for businesses in Tier 2 & 3 cities.
What are the latest developments at Digital Vidya and what are your future plans for the organization?
Until the beginning of 2017, we were only offering educational programs in digital marketing. In 2017, we launched data analytics certification programs.
Given our programs are intense and long duration certification courses, we don’t intend to launch too many programs in a short duration. Instead, we would like to take sufficient time to build a leadership position in the spaces we plan to venture.
On the other hand, we are looking at accelerating the growth of our B2B offerings, which include custom training programs for corporations & academic institutions and the training programs we conduct in association with our partners such as Google & Facebook.
Expanding our international business (both B2C & B2B) is another focus for future growth. We are interested in partnering with relevant organizations.
