Are you a woman with a degree in a STEM subject and passionate about Masters abroad but worried about financing? For the second year running, the British Council has launched a scholarship scheme in partnership with 26 UK universities with the aim of benefiting women from South East Asia (including India), Egypt, Turkey, Ukraine, and the Americas. This scholarship scheme is primarily for female candidates, who can demonstrate their need for financial support and who wish to inspire future generations of women to pursue careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). Let’s know more about the Scholarships for Women in STEM for Masters in UK.
Why Scholarships for Women in STEM?
The hottest acronym in higher education today is STEM. STEM jobs are growing faster than ever all across the world (including the UK), creating a more urgent need for education and training in high-demand areas. STEM courses offer an array of opportunities in both the private and public sectors.
The British Council Scholarship for Women in STEM scheme aims to increase opportunities in STEM for girls and women. According to data from the UN Scientific Education and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), fewer than 30 percent of researchers worldwide are women and only 30% of female students select STEM-related fields in higher education.
Globally, female students’ enrolment is particularly low in Information and Communications Technology (3%), natural science, mathematics and statistics (5%), and engineering, manufacturing, and construction (8%).
