In India the Banking industry has traditionally been one of the most preferred sectors for career building among job aspirants. The industry is recruits in a big way and is slated to recruit lakhs of candidates in the next five years.
With diversification, of activities and foraying into new products and services like credit cards, consumer finance, wealth management, life and general insurance, investment banking, mutual funds, pension fund regulation, stock broking services, custodian services and private equity etc. – the horizon of banking sector has expanded phenomenally. Additionally, the Indian banks are now going global, and setting up offshore offices. This expansion and convergence with the other financial sectors such as insurance, NBFCs and Capital markets, along with retirement of the existing employees as well as financial inclusion have lead to greater opportunities in the industry.

- Common Written Examinations (CWEs) by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) as a precondition for selection of Probationary Officer / Management Trainee / Clerk / Specialist Officer posts in Public Sector banks (other than SBI) and for Officers and Office Assistants in Regional Rural Banks

All who take the CWEs exam will have to get a minimum score in each section, following which there will be a second level cut off on total as per needed. Based on the number of vacancies available, cut-offs will be determined and aspirants will be selected for interview (For PO). Interviews are not held for Clerk jobs and the final short-listing is done on the basis of marks obtained in main exam.
IBPS has started a system of common interview in order to avoid multiple selections. Here are the details –
- Those qualifying the CWE will be selected for common interview level co-ordinated by IBPS
- Aspirants will submit their order of preference for banks during applying for the CWE
- Those succeeding the CWE as well as the Common Interview will be listed in the order of merit based on – total marks (CWE + CI), order of preference of banks along with available positions. Vacancies which will remain unfilled due to candidates declining offers will be filled by the waitlisted candidates, through subsequent process.
